Moving into the TAFE building in Templeton Street
Castlemaine Community House is moving to 65 Templeton Street, Castlemaine to share the building with Bendigo TAFE. We do not yet have a moving date, but many of our classes and activities will start term one in the new location.
The co-location will make it easier for students to progress from the Community House education programs to pathways at the TAFE or to courses at Continuing Education, also in Templeton Street. Together with Maldon Neighbourhood House, these are our main partners in MATCH, the Mount Alexander Training Community Hub.
The agencies for Centrelink and Medicare, and the free public internet access computers, will be accessible in the Templeton Street building. The Community House has been looking for a permanent home for several years, and the move will mean that our wide range of activities will have a centre. The House now runs playgroups, drama, singing and circus skills for older children, and for adults, courses and workshops, choirs, yoga, tai chi, and dance. Many of these will be able to take place under one roof. Community lunch, which now serves a two-course meal based on fresh vegetables and fruit to 100 people once a week, will be back in the centre of Castlemaine in the Town Hall later in 2014.
The move will mean better office space for the Growing Abundance Project, which has encouraged hundreds of local community members to grow, harvest, share and buy fresh, seasonal, local food.
Manager Martyn Shaddick says: “We want everyone in the community to be welcomed and looked after, and we’ll be able to expand the range of what we do. We are really pleased to be able to stay in the centre of Castlemaine, and we appreciate the help of Mount Alexander Shire Council and Bendigo TAFE in helping us to this new home.”
We look forward to welcoming you all to our new home!!
