Classes at Castlemaine Community House

Most of our classes are low cost - some are free - and concessions are available.

We try to keep information on courses and activities up to date, but details are subject to change, due to circumstances out of our control. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

We have a program of short courses which usually run on a single day, as well as eight-week courses which run one day a week for a term. Term two started on 19 July.

We are now taking bookings for term 3 - and if there's a course you are qualified to teach, we'd like to hear from you.

TRANSITION TOWNS:  Creating a positive future for our community

ACFE: Adult, Community and Further EducationThis is a continuing course embodying the old maxim ‘Think globally act locally’. If you've felt daunted by the notion of climate change, or the latest phrase, ‘peak oil’, this course charts a very exciting path through to a new future. Janet Phillips and Jacinta Walsh are local members of the international Transition Towns movement, and their course will be both practical and theoretical.

The course will deal with climate change, why we've got into this situation, and how to live better, smarter and greener. The model underlying the course is head, heart and hands – in other words, understanding an issue, how you feel about it, and what you can do. This means there is an academic or theoretical component exploring deep ecology, sustainability, and indigenous cultures, plus discussion groups, a group project, really fascinating outside speakers, and a chance to develop  practical life skills ranging from worm farming and how to make your vegetable garden truly productive to setting up a farmers’ market and how to set up a small sustainable business.

There will be opportunities to develop group facilitation skills and group dynamics, which are life skills really, about people working with people.

For more information and to book call Castlemaine Community House on 54724842 or email info@cch.org.au.

Facilitator: Jacinta Walsh (Consentric)

Most sessions are on Tuesday mornings from 9.30am-12.30pm over two terms, plus some evenings and weekends (total 96 hours); the course is under way

Cost: $480 ($240 each term), or with a concession card: $50
