Castlemaine Children’s Choir

The Castlemaine Children’s Choir is now in it’s second year. It’s open to all children in the shire aged 7 and above who would enjoy singing in a larger group. The choir provides the opportunity to develop musical skills and perform as a group. Sessions involve:

  • vocal warm ups;
  • pitch and rhythm activities;
  • music games;
  • learning new pieces;
  • and some collaboration with guest artists and local musicians.

This term the choir will also be offering a new group – for children and young people in grade 5 or above (based on demand). To join this group, some musical training or demonstrated formal skills is required. A short interview with some singing will be used to gauge readiness and pitch accuracy of those interested in joining.

If some extra time is required to develop readiness or pitch skills, children can still join the first group, which is open to ages 7 and above and all musical abilities.  Children at the right age and ability can transition from one group to the next at any time by agreement with the choir leader.

The two groups will join up on a number of occasions each term as the Castlemaine Children’s Choir.
