Age Friendly Communities

Castlemaine Community House (CCH) and Maldon Neighbourhood Centre (MNC) are working in partnership with Mount Alexander Shire Council to deliver four key Age Friendly Communities projects across 2017-18.

These projects, funded by the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), are the result of extensive community consultation conducted by CCH and MNC in late 2016.

The projects dovetail perfectly with the signing of the Age Friendly Victoria Declaration by the Mount Alexander Shire Council in December 2016.  (The declaration is available at bottom of this page.)

The consultation with over 100 individuals and community agencies resulted in $80,000 of funding to deliver the following major projects;

  • Better Community Buses Project – develop and pilot a new community bus service to better meet identified community needs
  • Positive Ageing Advocacy Group – a voice for advocating to Council and other relevant service agencies
  • Community Meals – continuing to evaluate and create sustainable food sharing options
  • Community Connect Website – an accessible collection of information and resources for Age Friendly Communities in Mt Alexander

Draft Terms of Reference documents for each project group will be available for download shortly.
