Castlemaine Abundance Kitchen Enterprise – CAKE
CAKE is a way of preserving and distributing locally grown seasonal food that enables people to come together to learn, share and work.
CAKE represents the idea of connecting people through food and (re)establishing ways of doing food that sustains people and the environment.
In our first year we have:
- established an active and passionate working group who meet regularly to plan workshops, events and project directions
- delivered 8 food preserving workshops to over 90 people
- fulfilled requests from community groups to provide ‘local produce’ meals
- liaised with local producers to cater for 75 people in a ‘local food’ meal in the pub
- provided local produce soup to support the ‘Food for Thought’ program
- developed a 12-month seasonal workshop plan
- begun negotiations with several possible venues to become a home for CAKE
- begun the process of exploring a Social Enterprise model to support CAKE (financially) into the future
- negotiated the purchase of $5,000 worth of equipment for use in an ‘abundance’ kitchen
- developed a store of preserving equipment donated by the community – to be shared in the community.
