Permaculture Design: a certificate course at Castlemaine Community House
As
more people become aware of the need to live more sustainably, there is a
growing interest in the practical and theoretical principles of permaculture.
‘Permaculture
is about more than horticulture – it’s about a lifestyle’, said Julia Brown,
one of the students who recently completed the Permaculture Design Certificate
course at the Castlemaine Community House.
Lucy
Young agreed. ‘We learned more about the principles that guide practical
gardening to create a culture with more sustainability.’ And Julia added that
the course brought together a great group of people to work with.
Another
student, Nikki Valentini, said she had plenty of ideas after completing the
course. ‘I am redesigning my whole garden to increase food production,’ she
said.
The
sixteen-week course will be running again once a week from 3 February with
theoretical classes at the Community House in the Old School of Mines, and
practical sessions led by tutor Beck Lowe at properties which demonstrate the
ideas of permaculture.
The next course runs all day on a Wednesday, from Wednesday 3 February to 24 March and from 21 April to 9 June at Castlemaine Community House, Old School of Mines,
27 Lyttleton Street,
Castlemaine, Victoria.
