Disability Access for Regional Swimming Pools

Posted in Latest News

The Victorian Government has approved funding for the project, ‘Disability Access for Regional Swimming Pools’.  Cathy Wheel from the Mount Alexander Shire Disability Advocacy Group (MASDAG), in partnership with Castlemaine Community House, was successful in her bid to make two swimming pools in Mount Alexander Shire independently accessible for people with limited mobility.

This project will install hydraulic chair lifts, which provide safe, independent access to the indoor Castlemaine Fitness Centre pool in Lyttleton Street and the Chewton outdoor pool.  This is one of 237 successful projects in Victoria.

The Pick My Project initiative has provided opportunities for communities throughout Victoria and accessible swimming pools is one of them.

The planning begins…
