Music Playgroup

Music Playgroup in the Library foyer is still currently having a break.  We are keen to restart the program again soon. Please contact us if you have some time available and would like to be a part of an exciting and fun group that engages children and parents with songs and musical games, improvisation and discovery!

See more information below.

Music Playgroup has been going for over 25 years! Some of the parents that bring their children to MPG once came as children themselves.

This is a wonderful opportunity for children to learn through music and a great way for parents to connect socially who may otherwise be socially isolated.

Tuesday morning is a great time for pre-kinder children at the library. First is the library’s storytime with Jess Saunders, and then comes music playgroup with a chance to jump around to traditional songs and music.

We thank those people who recently donated instruments for the children to use.

When: Tuesdays 11.15am-12.00pm during school terms.

(And afterwards bring the kids down to The Town Hall for Community Lunch at 12.30pm – $5 for a 2 course meal and everyone is welcome!)

Venue: Castlemaine Library Foyer, Mechanics Lane, Castlemaine

Cost: Free

There is no need to book, but if you would like more information, ring Castlemaine Community House ph: 5472 4842 or email

If you would like to support this wonderful program by helping to run the group occasionally when our volunteer facilitator is unable to please get in touch. You don’t need music teaching experience – just a willingness to turn up and hand out the instruments and if you know a few songs to sing that would be even better but not essential. There are lots of parents there each week to help.

Please get in touch if you would like to be involved.  Phone: 5472 4842
