Carpentry for Beginners

February 17 @ 9:30 am - 3:00 pm

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every week that begins at 9:30 am on Monday, repeating until 23 March, 2020

Learn to use hand and power tools through constructing a chicken coop from salvaged timbers, recycled pallets and other repurposed materials.

Build upon the skills learned in the 2-day taster course or jump straight into this longer 6-day course with a more in-depth project. We will cover the basic principles of carpentry in a fun and relaxed environment – a special invitation goes out to those who may have encountered obstacles to conventional trade-based training.

Timber framing is an important skill and can be used to build anything from sheds and greenhouses to tiny houses and multi-story buildings. It is also integral to Natural Building techniques such as Hempcrete and Light Earth and informs and supports strawbale construction.

Get equipped to tackle your own projects at home and in the garden or to take further steps

toward a career in ethical carpentry.

Come and see what building’s all about!

What we will cover:

  • Safe and effective use of hand and power tools
  • Basic principles of carpentry
  • Selecting timber
  • Types of fastenings
  • Ethical resourcing
  • Pathways to further training in Carpentry and Natural Building
